WPP within its walls
The first 160 employees of some of the WPP Group's nineteen advertising agencies have just taken possession of their new Parisian workspaces. The campus brings together on a single site, 145-149 rue Anatole France in Levallois-Perret - where the Citroën 2CV was produced - these entities previously scattered across the Paris region. BDG, a London-based architecture firm and subsidiary of WPP, designed the premises, while Chambers architects produced the "VF concept". In addition to its official role as executing architect, Chambers architects also fulfilled the advisory role typical of "local architects" when interior design projects are developed overseas. It's a subtle process of retranslation and adaptation to a particular local context, in this case France and the Paris region. Chambers architects had already been involved in the initial negotiation of the BEFA between owner and tenant teams to optimize planning and budget. The agency then carried out consultations with contractors, analysed bids, checked the availability of materials or researched their French equivalents, guaranteed compliance with national regulations such as the French Labour Code... and even negotiated the adaptation of international workplace standards to the specific aspirations of French employees. In a few months' time, there will be 2,000 of them on the eight floors of the 28,000m2 building, all assigned to WPP.
