CHAMBERS architects has just completed the new French headquarters of Australian investment bank Macquarie Group. The 1,700m² space boasts one of the most exceptional addresses in Paris, with windows opening directly onto the Rond-point des Champs-Elysées. Naturally, this extraordinary view is showcased as soon as you step out of the elevators and into the "porch," a lobby that is a signature feature of Macquarie sites around the world. This alone sums up the group's approach to customer reception. Here, surprisingly, the false ceiling has been opened up to reveal the tangle of beams and technical networks that are usually carefully concealed: a kind of black and white architectural dissection, a direct expression of the Chambers concept: "High contrast, high confidence."
